Just a little north from the Waterfront, there's the Handicraft Market also known as the Filipino Market. Here you can find a lot of stuff for souvenirs. Key chains, pearls, fridge magnets, pearls, fashion accessories, pearls, t-shirts, pearls and lots of pearls. Nearly every booth has pearls. But not all pearls are authentic, so beware. Also the price is marked up a lot, be sure to haggle.
Somehow, being a Orang Semenanjung is good enough for these traders to pull a quick one on you. Btw, in the afternoon, this place is hot and stuffy.
Assorted souvenirs to take home.
Pearls.
Making a pearl necklace.
More stuff to part your $$$ with.
Watches coated with color stone. About RM35 per piece.
Framed wooden carving displayed at Borneo Trading Post. The shop assistant asked me not to take anymore picture after I snapped this one.
Dried seafood, salted fish and keropok. These stalls are adjacent to the Handicraft Market. We didn't buy any because we don't even know whether they are worth buying or not. Furthermore, I don't want to stuff a dead smelly fish inside my luggage. My ex-colleague Pearly, (OMG pearls again!!) bought some keropok cincin and keropok ikan bola after a short stint in KK. We bought the same to bring back to KL.
Keropok cincin.
Dried sea cucumber.
Dried seafood stall = meeting point??
While enroute to Kinabalu Park, the tour guide made a stop at the Akinabalu Market. We saw the same merchandise again. It's more airy and not crampy like the Filipino Market.
